More and more studies are showing krill oil to be the cleaner, more superior form of omega-3 fatty acids, and there are three main reasons why…
1. First is their spot on the food chain…
Where fish oil supplements come from fish that are higher up on the food chain (mackerel, salmon, cod)…krill are at the very bottom of the food chain and have a much shorter lifespan. This reduces their exposure to heavy metals and pollutants like mercury and dioxins commonly found in the ocean. This makes krill oil more pure, safe, and potent.
2. Second, krill contains something that fish oil doesn’t: astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment that gives krill its distinctive reddish, pinkish color. Not only that, but it’s one of the most powerful antioxidants—up to 6,000 times more potent than vitamin C. That said, astaxanthin has an exceptional ability to protect cells from oxidative stress and inflammation, ease joint pain, reduce wrinkles and age spots, and so much more.
3. And perhaps one of the best parts…
Krill oil doesn’t come with any fishy burps, aftertaste, or digestive discomfort (unlike regular fish oil pills). This is thanks to its omega-3s being attached to phospholipids, a type of fat that mixes well with what's in our stomach.
This makes for a much more enjoyable, bioavailable supplementation experience.
